About my work

I imagine that my upbringing in rural Washington State has lent material to the appearance of ‘images from nature' in my work. But I also use animal forms as symbols, to address what I perceive as underlying primal impulses since I believe that at particular levels we have much in common with other animals. Mostly, I prefer to avoid entanglements around portrayals of type: sexual, physiological, sociological, political, ethnic, and religious. Therefore, I choose not to employ human subject matter in order to dissociate from qualifications concerning those issues.

At times, I address what I sense as the vanishing grandeur of nature in the face of indeterminate odds. Otherwise, images which do not readily belong to these aspects of my work do take into consideration world events that daily command my attention. In sum, I engender my work with universality and embraceability, and leave interpretation to the viewer.

In my bio, you can read a little more about me.
